Dinner On A Toothpick
I'm being quite bookish at the moment, I hope you don't mind? So, well I picked up this book a couple of weeks ago, attracted of course, by the darling fun cover and excitable title 'Dinner On A Toothpick'.
The book was published in 1971, and written by Josephine Camille and Gail Johnson, the two wives of the creative executives of an enormous advertising agency.
The flyleaf says 'Choosing to enjoy their own parties rather than visiting them briefly and moistly from the kitchen, they refined the structure of the Cocktail Buffet and adapted the recipes - via friends, travel and espionage - to provide maximum style with minimum fuss.' Pioneers in their field!
And inside there's so much more to love, aside from the perfect little drawings, it makes me want to put on a pinny and rustle a little something up - who's for Flaming Rum Sausages, Shrimp Olympia or perhaps some Drumsticks Houston?

well its totally wonderful and of its time , it reminds me of dancing to k-tel records(particularly" ..knock three times on the ceiling if you want me ..twice on the pipe if the answer is noooooo...oh my darling...." ) at my parents friends house and babs (who was v.giddy),sneaking me and my sister "snowballs" in the kitchen (warnicks advocaat and lemonade ) which she insisted had to have a glace cherry on a cocktail stick ,its ok ,luckily I didn't develop a drink issue !
Hey ,aren't the colours bonkers !
I love the decapitated hands stuck into the quavers ..too funny !
so nice, love the drawings.
Bring it over on thursday! I need to know more about shrimp olympia and flaming rum suasages!
I think I love the cockerel and hens best, but I really want a dress like the acid yellow boat neck at the top - doesn't she make her friend in the pink scoop neck look positively brassy?
