Only 362 to Go

I've joined a new flickr group - it's *gulp* a 365 project. One photograph a day for the whole year. I'm sure you don't need the concept explaining, the italics are more my own incredulity. I am both excited and terrified, but I really want improve my photography and the challenge (and discipline) of making one beautiful image a day really appeals.

Oh! And so now would be a perfect time to tell you that I did get a DSLR. It's a new (to me) Canon EOS 300D with a 18-55mm lens
. I've yet to read the manual, but I will. I will, and I will unlock the secret language of RAW and just generally become really good and whizzy at photography. But hopefully not at the expense of everything else. Hmmm.

So here's days 1, 2 and 3 - let me know what you think! Or even better, join in! Come on, join in!

You can look here if you want to know any more about any of the photographs.

I thought about this, but it is too big a commitment for me at the moment. I love no 2, but then I am a seaside girl

It's a great start, and I particularly like no. 3 - the colours against the silvery grey and the sense of a private world.

Oh well done on sorting out a camera so quickly. Your ability to just get on and DO always impresses me. Agree with Mise that No. 3 is my favourite so far. I am also lining up a pair of those yellow Aigle wellies for Isla just as soon as she moves up shoe size. They just about sum up toddlerhood don't they.

Oh, and Happy New Year!

excellent news, I too am trawling ebay for a new digital camera, all this film shooting is making me broke, well done on finding one! It is huge undertaking the 365, Romy has joined up and keeps nagging me to take part. If you end up like me, you'll find photography does start to take over your life! But hey, it's not so bad x

Congrats on your new camera. I had the 300D and loved it. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I did mine. I learned a lot with that camera and it's taken me to where I am today. I now have a 30D and selection of lenses. I bet you end up in the same place in 4 years time ;)

A lot of the photographs on my site were taken with the 300D. if you've got time, take a look at www.ammphotography.com but if you want an interactive group where you can ask questions, post photographs and get feedback and really learn, pop over to my photography forum at www.photographers-corner. com I'm not just commenting to plug these two sites, your site is linked on my blog and I come and read your blog often. I'm just trying to help a fellow photographer.

Good luck on your Picture a Day. I tried it one time and only got a fortnights worth of photographs LOL.

Happy New Year Nath!

Your photos are beautiful! You don't need to improve X

Thank you so much for the India Knight link, I'd never had known about it! That is great for us, what a lovely thing to read on the first monday morning of the year!

bye the way, i'm well jealous of you new SLR camera, mine's ok but its the cheapest one we bought on company expence! I'm always lusting after flashy new ones, they always take better quality photos!

Ahhh sigh, one day!

Good luck with the photo project, I'll be checking in out!

Love the bottom photo - the curious girl in yellow boots, with that lovely light coming in from above.

Looks very promising Nath, great photos :)

Wow, what a challenge but great to focus the mind. My camera seems to object to the glare of the snow against dark shapes, so hasn't been so easy to take those snowy pics. Good luck and a Merry WInter.

Ok ok, so I should have come directly instead of asking you the question in my blog comments. What an amazing idea and I love your photo's, but obviously especially the one of Iris and those yellow boots which is just about the most favourite one, ever. What a fantastic thing to do with your camera and yes i would love to do it. Maybe when I actually get a desk and feel a little more organised and productive I will, but for now I can enjoy yours. Hi Nath,

Looks like a great project and the photos you've taken so far are stunning. Sadly a little late to join myself, and with the lack of natural light (and a similar inability to open the manual of my not-so-new-now DSLR to learn how to take decent photos in electric light) I'm not sure I'm up to managing one a day. Look forward to seeing the progress of your year though!

A very Happy New Year to you!.
