When we got home, Iris clambered up onto the sofa beside me and helped me wrench it open. After that, I stood no chance as each pinkly wrapped parcel succumbed to Iris's marauding paws. And actually that was fine, she really really enjoyed it and kept wishing me a happy birthday (relax, you haven't missed it, it's not until November), and before long we were surrounded by clouds of pink tissue and I had a lovely pile of treasure in my lap.
And what treasure! Laura clearly pays attention - it was all so tailored exactly to my tastes. Come see what she sent...
A tiny brass swallow.
Who's this?
A plump little robin, that's who.
A darling little glass chest topped with a bird and filled with pearl-ish beads.
Books! One on gardening, a beautiful copy of Through The Looking Glass, which is one of my absolute favourite books of all time, ever. And a board book called Out-Of-Doors, the illustrations are so wonderful.
Wouldn't this sandcastle illustration make a perfect summer party invite?
A very sweet hand-written note (it's been so nice getting and writing little notes as well) along with some cards and a bag that Laura had cleverly made - have a proper look at those over here..
Thank you sweet invisible friend - this has been so much fun and very life-affirming too.
