The TRENDY East London Post

On the second day, I walked around East London, through the ubiquitous Hoxton, popping in briefly to be underwhelmed at the White Cube, then round Shoreditch and a bit of Brick Lane. I went into a couple of boutiques, but mostly I just walked and looked in windows and took photographs. Happy times.

Isn't this WONDERFUL?

Oh, what a magnificent squirrel!

So, I'm home now, and back to the natural order of things. I have lots of ideas that I need to quietly unpack in spare moments. I am keen to sneak away again soon, because it felt SO liberating, although it's hard to rid oneself completely of the GUILT. Tell me, what is your favourite thing to do or place to go, all by yourself?

I think I read that the squirrel has got to go, orders of the council to get rid of all 'graffiti'...but there is a petition to save it.
My fave place to go all by myself is my local library which is huge with a magnificent ART section which I just eat for breakfast, lunch and tea. Books too big to carry are hauled down and sighed over.

Don't feel guilty, you definitely have to take time to yourself sometimes! I like to climb to the top of Primrose Hill to see all of the city spread before me - puts things in perspective somehow!

it was a different sqsuirrel, and I heard the petition worked and it's going to stay.
I love Regens Canal, the tiny short bit south of Angel going East. it's just one stretch between two bridges, with a lot of trees and houseboats, and you can look into the back gardens of the people living up there. they are all pretty wild and unkempt, just the way I like it. this stretch is a bit lower down than the surroundings, so you feel sort of sheltered and tucked away from the rest of London. you don't see and almost never hear any cars. it's really nice with a book in the summer, or now with the trees changing colour.

aren't your photos just wonderful? i love the jellied eels pic - all those reflections! and what bliss to walk around aimlessly, just taking things in.

when i need some me-time, it's just that: wandering the streets with a camera, having a little bite somewhere. or: seeing a big, fat art show.

Lovely photos, I love the window reflections. It's good for both mother and child to have a recharge otherwise you get fed up of one another, so forget the G- word!
I love to go walking in the forest rain or shine and I try and do it every day (lucky me).

the guilt is debilitating, isn't it? I took a solo weekend and went to San Francisco. I sorta-kindda- missed my kids. I want to do a solo trip to Italy one day. that's my real dream. If I'm feeling nice my husband can come with. The kids can stay until they appreciate it fully for themselves.

Lovely inspiring photos nath!
I go to London too, or Paris. I've lived in France a long time now and I really miss England and living in a big city. I often fly to London for 24 hours and I feel so free and me...

Love them...you've captured the London I love! Glad you got to go on your own...and were able to focus on your ideas and be inspired. Good for you. There is no such thing as 'me time' for me yet....but I'm looking forward to when there is....I imagine I would do something very similar to you, but with more cake! x

I've noticed a lot of those paper cut outs recently. There's a couple by my house and I love them very much!
I love going on exploring walks by myself and knowing I can follow every whim without feeling guilty for dragging people along.
