I have lots of new (to me) vintage clothes to show you. Yesterday I went to the Giant Flea and picked up some more (amongst other treasures).
1) a silk Jaeger dress, from the 1980s judging by the shoulder pads (which, incidentally, I am loving).

2) a midnight blue wool skirt (fits like a dream) - I haven't photographed this as I need to sew some ribbon in it so it can be hung on a hanger.
3) a 1950's two piece, a dress with a little jacket, (shown here without jacket). This is too big, but I am desperately in love with it and want to wear it.

4) a wide emerald green leather belt.
5) a lace trimmed slip

6) a 1960s green skirt (I gave this to Katie as it was too small for me, and I didn't take a photo, oops).
5) a little pinky floral blouse

6) a 1930's style tea dress
7) a 1940's-ish polka dot day dress - I haven't even tried this on yet.

8) an abstract floral sleeveless blouse - a good layering piece I thought.

9) a buff-coloured lace blouse.

10) A fabulous electric blue bathing costume. What a show-stopper this is. The colour is amazing.

11) A sheer-ish ruffled neck blouse, which is too small for me, but I thought it'd be a lovely thing to keep for Iris to wear some day.

I got all of this for £27, which is pretty amazing. Although some things like the 1950s two piece were given to me (but that's another story).

Now having all this newness flooding into my wardrobe (see above) should mean that I am never struggling for something to wear, right? Wrong.
I am really struggling to put things together, (this happens periodically to me, things that I have been loving and wearing, suddenly seem not to fit/look right/work) Does this happen to anyone else? It's maddening. And my new haircut is not helping! It seems not to go with most of my clothes. Argh. What to do?
I'd love to have a big wardrobe crit with someone. Anyone?
In no particular order. This was Lincolnshire.
I was going to pretend it was my house. But really it's an antique shop run by a retired couple in the old part of Lincoln. There was stuff banked up everywhere, it was extreme collecting. Everywhere you looked - stuff - not just one of any particular item but many, many, many.
Really big skies and magnificent, epic clouds.
Being free.
Pretty though utilitarian beach huts at Sutton-On-Sea
Really really enjoying a strawberry ice cream. With sand.
Packing up after an afternoon at the wide golden beach. Reminds me a little of this.
Beautiful grey (working) windmill.
Bird remains. I saw these feathers at one of the towers in Lincoln Castle (which was used as a prison in Victorian times), it was the tower where they'd take the bodies of prisoners who'd been hung for their (often petty crimes, mostly stealing cattle, yes, really) and then dissolve them in quick lime and bury them. Sorry, that was quite a lot of macabre detail. I do quite like learning about stuff like that.
Quick! Distract yourself with a lovely field full of hay.
I feel a little melancholy looking at these (and no, not because of the quick lime story), but because it's as though summer might really be over, not that the weather was really even that summery whilst we were away. And anyway, I like Autumn, but still I do feel a bit of sadness, I like the long nights and possibilities of summer.
As Autumn is slowly but surely wending its way over here, my thoughts have turned to what I'm going to wear, especially now I have a new haircut. So when I read this description below by Miss Hearse on the wonderful Hiss and Hearse blog, my pulse quickened and my heart beat a little faster at the possibilities... 'I am thinking layers: vintage coats, the perfect black trench (which is a constant search of mine), velvet blazers, and secretary blouses under sweaters, antique brooches, paired with knitted tights and cute cone heels.'Yes, Miss Hearse, I certainly think you're onto something there.
Then, I had a poke around the archives of the Lyell site (found via Verhext - which is wonderful inspiring in itself) for some inspiration.. And found plenty to get even more excited about..

Oh so pretty blouses..
Fall 05 -
(!) Still looks pretty good to me!

I really want a high-waisted wool skirt similar to the one above. I am thinking (hypothetically) about making one, but, but, it probably wouldn't turn out that well. I am so impatient and end up cutting corners. So if anyone spies one on their fashion travels, let me know, eh? I also favour Rhiannon's blog for a reliable fashion fix whatever the season. She always finds such wonderful vintage things and looks pretty amazing in them for that matter. She pointed me in the direction of lewisnyc - so pretty and elegant. I love it. I'm going to try hard to be thrifty this Autumn and rework some of the things I have in my own wardrobe. Well, a girl can dream, eh?
What will you be sporting this Autumn and what's been inspiring you? It'd be great to discover some more fashion-y blogs and labels so fill me in!
Whoops, I have been (accidentally) silent again. Let me explain, we have been away for a few days in Lincolnshire, and the hotels we stayed professed to have wifi for all but it didn't really work out like that. I'll be posting a little more about our trip in due time but until then...
I have been attempting to curb my vintage buying instincts, (yadda yadda), but we all know I can't so I should really stop repeating myself. Anyway, over the last month, I have been buying a few things, and now I'm going to show them to you (at last).
Vintage tile from here -
pretty, huh?
Salad serving set - for the shop.
Charming Moulin Rouge programme. Crying out to be framed.
A plethora of 1950s spotty drinking cups.
A pumpkin adorned tin. The pumpkin and squash season is almost upon us. I can't wait.
Beautiful teal blue enamel cooking pot. I already have this in orange. But, so what, eh?
A pair of round table-cloths. Shop bound.
There's more (of course) but not tonight, too too tired. But I will be getting back to my usual blogging ways this week, I hope you're all still there...!
I have been very lucky recently receiving some amazing things through the post.

First up, sweetest Gemma of gemma correll and her merry band of misfits. Gemma mentioned on her blog that she was taking part in an exhibition in Antwerp, which instantly got me thinking about Mieke Willems. So I asked Gemma to get me something (anything) if she went. And she did! A tote bag and some note paper.
But she also put a few extra unexpected treats in as well.

A tiny deer, a raccoon and baby, which are all housed in my letterpress tray.

Some postcards, a zine and some ephemera including a lovely Alice in Wonderland playing card, which Iris was utterly enchanted by.

Iris is a very big Alice fan, I am too, so as you can see I have taken temporary custody of it (hee!). I was really blown away by her kindness and thoughtfulness.
Then today, I got this exciting package from Elisabeth of fine little day. I sent Elisabeth a parcel last week, some books and a puzzle and some other small things, which I thought she might like. And she sent me, this anchor brooch (which I had bought from her shop).

And a copy of Petit magazine.

And a little book for Iris, a beautiful cloth, and two Studio Violet prints. Wow.

Super, super lucky, eh? Invisible friends are amazing.
